STAGE 1: FUNDAMENTALS

The Fundamentals stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model focuses on building basic movement skills and physical literacy in children, typically between the ages of 6 to 9.

This stage emphasizes fun and inclusive activities that develop agility, balance, coordination, and speed through a wide range of games and unstructured play.

The goal is to establish a strong foundation of fundamental movement skills that are essential for all sports.

Encouraging participation in multiple sports and physical activities during this stage helps foster a lifelong love for movement, reduces the risk of early specialization, and supports healthy physical and cognitive development.
