STAGE 4: TRAIN TO COMPETE
The Train to Compete stage includes athletes aged 16-18, depending on the sport and rate of individual development. At this stage, athletes have committed to a single sport and are training and competing at an advanced level with the goal of achieving peak performance in high-level competitions.
Training becomes highly specialized, with a strong focus on refining technical and tactical skills, optimizing physical conditioning, and developing the mental toughness required to perform under pressure.
Athletes are introduced to advanced sport science support, including individualized strength and conditioning programs, nutrition planning, recovery protocols, and psychological preparation.
Periodization is essential, with training and competition schedules carefully managed to ensure athletes are at their physical and mental best for key events. Video analysis, data tracking, and regular performance evaluations are often used to fine-tune performance.
The competitive environment becomes more intense, and athletes must learn how to manage pressure, adapt strategies, and respond to different opponents. Coach acts more as a performance consultant, guiding athletes through fine adjustments rather than teaching basic skills.
The ultimate goal of this stage is to prepare athletes for success at national and international competitions, and potentially for professional or Olympic-level performance.
